Here I am in the Icicle Lodge region!
Hey, fellow travellers! I'm Laguna Loire, and I'm really happy to welcome you back to The Travelling Companion. Since my last column, I've travelled to the spectacular Icicle Lodge region!

I can't say enough good things about the people around here. It's kind of an out of the way place, so they're a little suspicious at first, but they opened up really quick. You know what they say about cold hands and warm hearts, and that's certainly true here. You can get by with standard 'gil', although I had a lot better luck with gifts. Those mastered Enemy-All Materia I'd gotten were really popular - I could get a whole meal for just one!

The scenery is breathtaking around here - just take a look at the photo above. Immediately after it was taken, I had a great time learning how to ski. I didn't do very well, though, and I ended up falling into an ice cave. That's okay too, because there was so much cool stuff in there!

There was this really weird crater up in the far North, but I couldn't get by the energy field.

As a pro Monster Hunter, I had no trouble with the local wildlife, but some people may want to bring a Charm Bangle or similar device to ward off the random encounters. Some of these guys are pretty tough, but they're very cool. I even saw a flock of wild chocobos!

The food is top notch. It's all really home-cooking type stuff. They gave me some travel rations that they said would warm me right up, but there must have been some mistake, because they were cold by the time I ate them.

The hotel here looked really nice, but there's just one and I couldn't get a room. I don't think the proprietor spoke very good Estharan, because if he had he wouldn't have said the rude things he did when I kept asking him. One family was nice enough to let me sleep in their snow drift, though, so I was OK.

All in all, I give this place a 10!
