Here I am at majestic Mt. Volcano!
|Hey, fellow travellers! I'm Laguna Loire,
and I'm really happy to welcome you back
to The Travelling Companion. Since my last
column, I've travelled to the impressive
It's easy to find Mt. Volcano, 'cause there's usually a lot of pilgrims and stuff going there for the Shrine of Vulcanon in Bedoe. But I had a heck of a time getting there! The mountains have a lot of hobgoblins in them, and one time I even met a bunch of Devils! It was pretty scary, especially when the volcano started erupting on them.
In fact, you might not want to go on your own to Mt. Volcano unless you're a pro monster hunter like me. Definitely bring your best weapons, and travel with a good tour group. The birdmen of Bedoe run some nice tours, and they're heavily armed, so if you're low level, going with them might be a good idea. There are some pretty cool monsters around here, though not the kind I'm used to seeing.
The people of Bedoe and the little villages around it are really nice. They don't go out any more than they have to, 'cause of the volcano and all, but they'll always direct you to someplace you can see some cool lava flows. You might want to check one of the official guidebooks, though, 'cause one nice birdlady accidentally sent me to a place where there was a whole river of lava! Yikes!
The scenery around Mt. Volcano is really great. There are lots of mountains and trees and stuff, and some good cliffs for rock climbing, if you like that sort of thing. I hear that you can navigate the whole place by hang-glider, just using the updrafts from the lava, but I kinda chickened out at the last minute and didn't try it, cause that would get pretty hot, right?
The inns in Bedoe are kinda expensive, especially if you're not there just to go to the shrine. I hear they have a discount during the pilgrimage season, though, so that's nice. You can get a lot better deals down in the villages, but the inns I stayed in all got hit by lava, so it's better to go to Bedoe.
There's all kinds of cool souvenirs here.I bought a calendar of the area, a nice Spear-class weapon for Ward's birthday, and a couple of chocolate Vulcanons. It seemed kinda weird, y'know, selling chocolate figurines of their god, but the guy who sold 'em to me said it had to do with the whole phoenix rebirth thing, so that's OK.
I didn't get to meet King Bedoe or Vulcanon, but I did run into a nice Phoenix named Peter, and he showed me around. He was awful personable for a legendary bird, even if he did look kinda like a mutant chicken, don't you think?
All in all, I give this place a 10!
